Moviola Classic 35mm Black Upright Film Editing Machine, Reportedly Owned and Used By Fox MovieTone News. Designed: C. 1927. Built C. 1943
Submitted for your review is this very rare original style 35mm Moviola two headed editing machine. Presented in the original black color and in complete and accurate original condition. Running and pulling film properly.
One of the earliest machines we have ever seen. Original design Circa 1927. Comes with the original optical sound head and the picture with composite optical sound head. Built in Circa 1943. We are working on further research for provenance on the exact build and purchase date, so please stand by for that.
Recently arrived from Hollywood in original, non restored, unmolested condition. Just out of our workshop from an overall conservation process.
Reportedly owned and used originally by Fox MovieTone News, and then used in Hollywood for feature film editing in the 40’s through the 60’s. Then residing in storage until unearthed by the curator of Cinema Antiques in the Hollywood area and carefully shipped to our Dallas gallery.
We have carefully removed layers of original grime and carefully ‘brought back’ some of the original patina of the 1943 paint. Even original red grease pencil random marks remain. Wonderful patina. Worn but original paint.
Vintage 35mm reels and optical composite film will be added for the complete accurate look for this wonderful machine.
No new parts, not restored, original electricals, cables and switches, original paint; a rare find of an original machine with perhaps some mild sectional respray to the steel rolling base. No mildew. Gorgeous in all ways. Gloriously shows the working patina of over 75 years of Hollywood editing studio ‘hard labor’.
Imagine what this Moviola has seen and the stories it could tell.
A very rare piece for display at home or office and a treasure for any professional editor to proudly add to their collection.
This spectacular find is one of the only remaining black 2 headed original Moviolas to exist in this condition.
